Tigers compete at Miami

MIAMI, Okla. -- Despite a soggy course from a weekend of rain, the Nevada Tigers golf team was able to compete in the Miami Invitational tournament Monday at Peoria Ridge Golf Course.

The Tigers showed a very strong performance in the tournament, posting three individual scores in the 80s on their way to an overall team total of 355. Pittsburg posted the overall best score of the tournament at 324.

"Peoria Ridge is a course that has a lot of "blind" shots. You can get yourself in some trouble hitting it in the wrong place," Tigers head coach Brian Leonard said. "I was pleased with the scores. Having three scores in the 80s is encouraging."

Joseph Ferry led the way for the Tigers as he finished the course in 82 strokes, followed by Alex Christensen at 86 and Justin Carter at 87. Freshman Taylor Handly had "a good day for his first 18-hole varsity tournament," Leonard said, as he came in at 100. Trevor Landis rounded out the order for the Tigers as he finished with an overall score of 122.

The next action for the Tigers is scheduled for tomorrow, when they take on Pleasant Hill at Country Creek Golf Course.
