Barbara Ann Shumaker, 58, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 31, 1951, in Nevada, to John J. Holland and Ethel F. Rackley Holland. She married Raymond L. Shumaker on May 29, 1971, in Nevada, and he survives of the home.
Barbara grew up in Vernon County and graduated from Nevada High School in 1969. She went to work for Smith Insurance in 1969 where she worked until 2003 retiring due to her illness. Barbara was an avid golfer and loved her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada.
Survivors in addition to her husband Raymond, include: one son, John Shumaker and his wife Tracy, Nevada; one daughter, Amber Hale and her husband Chris, Nevada; four grandchildren, Ashley Shumaker, Amy Shumaker, Allison Shumaker, and Colin Hale; three sisters, Ada Householder, Independence, Mo., Betty Sinsley, Independence, Mo., and Florence Johnston, Lee's Summit, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Jack Holland.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, April 30, at Ferry Funeral Home, with pastors Bill Platt and David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., on Thursday, April 20, at the funeral home.
