Fireworks fund drive succeeds

Phyllis Sprenkle, who is heading the Nevada fireworks committee, had some good news Monday, the fireworks display will definitely take place July 2.

"We have collected enough money and pledges to say for sure that we will have the fireworks display," Sprenkle said. "It is thanks to the generosity of the community that we have been able to accomplish this."

Sprenkle said July 2 was chosen because the company that does the display was booked for the Fourth of July itself.

"We started this a little late and the company had already committed to doing a display on the Fourth." Sprenkle said. "Having it on the second makes sense. I think it's a good date. It's the start of the Fourth of July weekend, so it gets the weekend off to a good start.

In addition to the members of the public who have donated Sprenkle also thanked the Nevada Fire Department for their help.

"We couldn't do this without the Nevada Fire Department," Sprenkle said. "They have the hands-on expertise to put on a good show, we couldn't have brought this together without their help."

Now that the display is a certainty Sprenkle wanted to be sure the word got out to the people it is being put on for.

"We need to let people know we are doing this so they can make plans to attend," Sprenkle said. "Next year we will start collecting donations earlier in the year so things won't be so hectic and we will be able to operate more smoothly."

Sprenkle said there were many donors and all of them deserve recognition.

"We had so many people who donated and I'd like to thank them all," Sprenkle said. "Some were only able to give a small amount but every dollar helped."
