Elzie Allen Farmer

Elzie Allen Farmer, 87, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010, at Christian Health Care in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 21, 1922, in Bronaugh, Mo., to Joseph Harvey Farmer and Viola Dalton Farmer. He was married to Louise Mitts on Feb. 25, 1961, in Liberal, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Allen was born and raised in Vernon County and spent most of his life here. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of War. Following the service, he worked for a time in California before returning to Vernon County. He worked for many years at Nevada State Hospital, retiring in 1987. His hobby was lawn and grounds care. Allen attended the Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada. He was loved by his family and that love was returned in full.

Survivors in addition to his wife Louise, include one son, Stan Farmer, Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Sherry Steward, Nevada; six grandchildren, and one sister, Marie Roby, El Dorado Springs, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 30, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Robert Burk officiating. Interment will follow in Howell Cemetery, Milford, Mo.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends Thursday, July 29, from 7-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
