Nevada High School Class Celebrates 50 Year Reunion

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Dear Editor:

It's been 50 years since they graduated. Although not the first graduating class in the "new" Nevada High School, they were the second. They were the first class to spend their entire senior year in the new school.

They were just beginning their high school years in the old school when the devastating fire took place, and they all remember that horrible night. After a few rough years of taking buses from one building to another, sometimes between each of their classes, they were proud to walk down the aisles of the new school to get their diplomas.

The NHS Class of 1960 will celebrate their reunion the weekend of Sept.17, with events ranging from a Friday night social, a Saturday visit to the Bushwhacker Museum to make a class donation, a couple of mixers on Saturday, a dinner at the Country Club on Saturday night, and a brunch on Sunday.

The committee in charge of planning this event is excited about the response -- but they still hope to have even more of their former classmates respond and celebrate with them. They are fast approaching the cutoff date for reservations, so if you are a member of this class and have not responded, do so today.

Contact Mert Compton at (417) 944-2462 or Jim Adams at (417) 684-7359 if you have questions or didn't get a sign up package.

Thank you

Jan Verden
