Hazel I. Garton 87, Bronaugh, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at National Healthcare, Joplin, Mo. She was born March 1, 1923, in Moundville, Mo., to Marian Alpha Shaw and Clara Ann Maddox Shaw. She was married July 11, 1941, in Joplin, to Harold Dean Garton, and he preceded her in death June 24, 1994. She then married Huber Wise, May 16, 1996, in Bronaugh, and he also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Garton grew up in Moundville. She attended the Rag Town School and was a graduate of Bronaugh High School in 1940. She was a member of the Moundville Methodist Church. Hazel was a homemaker, loved gardening and was an active 4-H leader. She was a past member of the Rebekah's Lodge in Liberal, Mo. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very active in their lives.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Gibson and her husband, Bill, Shawnee, Okla., Jo Hastings, Joplin, and Jane Buehler and her husband, Todd, Shawnee, Okla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother Wallace Shaw, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouses; four brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Lynn Quist officiating. Interment will follow in Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, Nov. 1, between 6:30 and 8 p.m.
