Two suffer minor injuries in rollover crash

Emergency personnel from the Vernon County Ambulance District, Nevada Fire Department, Vernon County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a one vehicle accident about noon on Monday, Nov. 8. The accident occured near the intersection of Quail Road and 1600 Road, one mile east of Ricketts when a northbound Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Allison N. Boor, 21, of Pamona, Kan., ran off the right side of 1600 Road and overturned. Boor and passenger Christopher E. Shipp, 22, of Nevada, were transported to the Nevada Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Neither occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Every time I read about an accident where the people involved weren't wearing a seatbelt, all I can think is "HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE?", "HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE?".

I agree with you, 3DN74. It is a proven fact, you have room to live inside your vehicle, most of the time. My cousin retired after 30 years as a state trooper. He never did unbuckle a person that had died. Without a seatbelt, you are thrown around like a rag-doll. I'm so glad they are ok, and didn't get thrown from the vehicle.

Not only am I concerned that they weren't wearing their seatbelts, I'm concerned that the majority of the rollovers are by young people.

This stretch of road is pretty flat and she had to be traveling at a high rate of speed to overturn a Trailblazer, even if she overcorrected.

And one more thing, keep off your cell phone, stop trying to text, keep off all electronics when you are behind the wheel of a vehicle.

While I do agree your setbelt will help keep you safer in a crash, there are some crashes where people have died in this county and it would not have mattered if they were wearing their seat belt. The first one that comes to mind is on 54 HWY with 2 teenagers. In these cases, I believe the media is just adding insult to injury. fiveft2eyesofblu, your cousin may not have unbuckled anyone died in a crash, but that does not mean it has happened. I know someone who watched a man burn to death helplessly because that man had buckled up and they could not get the buckle undone. There are PROS and CONS on each side.

montana_mustang, I also have known people to die in a crash even though they had their seat belt on. I also agree with you about Pros and Cons. As I stated before, you do have room to live inside your vehicle "most of the time". I guess that is why it is a state law to buckle-up. The con side is, in some cases it didn't matter if they were buckled or not. I will continue to take my chances inside my car. I know you are not disputing seat belts. I just wish everyone agreed with us. I also know people that would rather get a ticket for not wearing it. I just don't get it.

The highway patrol crash website provides limited information on an accident - who, where, when, what model vehicle, and restaining device usage are standard. When the paper or radio reports on an accident, they aren't judging, just reporting what little facts they know. You can check that site any time you want and compare the injuries and death rates of those with seatbelts to those without.

Yes, there are occasionally accidents in which seat belts would not have made a difference, such as the two young people - but it is proven that many more would be saved if seat belts were used more often. I lost two friends in separate wrecks where other college students in the same vehicles lived because they were wearing seat belts.

I also had a friend that burned alive because the rescue crew could not get her out in time and she was wearing her seat belt. Maybe we should put some of the blame on the fact that the cars are now made out of plastic and the speed limit is 70mph and 65 mph on major highways. I agree that it should be our choice if we want to wear seat belts or not. After all this is America the land of the free. People can protest our soldiers funerals and thats called freedom of speech but we can't choose if we want to wear our seat belts. I think that should be a freedom too. We all know the outcome of what can happen but you know what it should be our choice. They are the ones that will pay the price.
