Edna Mae Rice, 89, formerly of Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Christian Healthcare in Nevada. She was born on Nov. 19, 1920, in Avola, Mo., to Clarence Gordon and Mattie Mae Stone Gordon. She married Earl Howard Rice on Sept. 15, 1940, in Bronaugh, Mo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2009.

Edna attended Sheldon High School. She worked for Phillips 66 Truckstop in Sheldon and later at the Blue Top Restaurant in Lamar for a number of years. She was a member of the Jolly Senior Citizens of Sheldon. Edna was also a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Ed Rice and his wife, Marybelle, Sheldon; one daughter, Shirley Shellhorn and her husband, Raymond, Independence, Mo.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Jack Gordon, of Nevada; one sister, Rosalee Potter, Lamar; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Howard, she was preceded in death by one sister, Dulcie Rice; three brothers, Willis Gordon, Glen Gordon and Paul Nelson Gordon; and one grandson, Greg Rice.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Lynn Quist officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, at the funeral home.
