Dorothy Hamilton, 75, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after a short battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 14, 1936, in Claflin, Kan., to Anthony Straub and Mary Kimpler Straub. She married Harry Hamilton on Sept. 20, 1954, in Decatur, Ind., and he survives of the home.

Dorothy grew up in Claflin, Kan. Following their marriage, she and Harry lived in Great Bend, Kan., until they moved to Nevada, in January 1970. Dorothy worked for Nevada R-5 School District and for the Nevada State Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the National Association of Letter Carrier's Auxiliary serving as an officer of both the Missouri State Association NALC and South West District of Missouri State Association NALC until Harry's retirement. Dorothy was a volunteer for the Red Cross for the past six years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nevada.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, giving all her love to her family. Survivors include her husband, Harry, of the home; daughters, Kathy Spann and her husband, Rudy, Nevada, Terri Hunt Kirbey and her husband, Brad, Nevada, Toni Slates and her husband, Max, Nevada; one son, David Hamilton and his wife, Sandy, Nevada; one sister, Patricia Moore, Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren (three deceased); 22 nephews (two deceased); and 15 nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Raymond Straub, Milton Straub, Vernon Straub and Walter "Wally" Straub; and two sisters, Bernadine Bridges and Delores Schlochtermeier.

Due to pending weather conditions, Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada, with the Rev. Justin Hoye officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Visitation will be held 7-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
