Former Nevada City Clerk Virginia Shepherd passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Moran, Kan., the daughter of John W. Rawlings and Clara Crouch Rawlings, who preceded her in death. She married Ernest Shepherd of Nevada, June 19, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kan., and he also preceded her in death on April 21, 1994.

Mrs. Shepherd graduated from Nevada High School in 1941. The family lived in Texas for 10 years, moving back to Nevada in 1961. She worked for the Birdseye Abstract and Title Company in Nevada for five years, and for the City of Nevada 29 1/2 years, retiring May 1, 1992. She was a former member of the National Association of City Clerks, the Finance Officer's Association, and the Missouri City Clerks Association.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Roldan and her husband, Manuel, Nevada; three grandchildren, Amy Bradley, Nevada, Amber Jenkins, and her husband, Mike, Nevada, and Aaron Dahmer, also of Nevada; three great-granddaughters, Kendra Bradley, Jaycee Jenkins and Callee Jenkins, all of Nevada; one great-grandson, Wyatt Jenkins, Nevada; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca Auberry, Joplin, Mo., and Steven Roldan, Pierce City, Mo.; one brother, Robert Rawlings and his wife, June, Kansas City, Mo.; and one sister, Bonae Losey, Nevada. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Rawlings and Levi Rawlings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
