Jean Ruth Gicante, 78, Schell City, Mo., passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born April 29, 1933, in Sandstone, Mo., to Lester and Jeanette Pike. She was married March 6, 1976, in Nevada, to Harry P. Gicante Sr. and he survives of the home.

Mrs. Gicante was born in Sandstone, Mo., and was raised in Nevada. She graduated from Nevada High School and lived all her life in this area. She worked as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell in Nevada for 17 years. She also worked at the Nevada City Hospital as an aide for four years and at Nevada State Hospital, mostly in food service, for 21 years retiring in 1995. Jean loved fishing, baking and decorating cakes.

In addition to her husband, Harry, survivors include two sons, Jeff Gicante, Nevada, and Toby Gicante and his wife, Diana, Deerfield, Mo.; two daughters, Belinda Johnson, Nevada, and Marie Baker and her husband, Danny, Rich Hill, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tandy Pike, Sheldon, Mo., Joe Pike, Nevada, and Tony Pike, Compton Junction, Mo.; three sisters, Grace Colvin, Nevada, Jewell Williams, Bronaugh, Mo., and Alice Ramage, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Wayne Litten; one daughter, Regina Litten; and one brother, Lester Pike.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow at Moore Cemetery in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday between 9 and 10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
