Joyce Joann Burris, 75, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at her residence in Nevada. She was born May 4, 1936, in Pekin, Ill., to Robert Sutton and Kathleen Mary Patruska Sutton.
Ms. Burris was born in Illinois and grew up in Phoenix, Ariz. After her marriage to James Burris in 1952, they moved to Deerfield, Mo. She worked at the Nevada State Hospital in Nevada, Mo., for 23 years, retiring in 1986. In 1986, she moved to California, in the Sacramento area, where she did insurance examinations for numerous insurance companies. She returned to Nevada in 2001 and lived the remainder of her life here. Joyce attended the Community Christian Church in Nevada.
Survivors include three sons, D. Robert "Bob" Burris and his wife, Maria, Kansas City, Kan., David L. Burris and his wife, Kenadean, Olathe, Colo., and James E. Burris Jr., Branson, Mo.; two daughters, Joyce "Jo" Hibbs and her husband, James, Nevada, and Katie Newton and her companion, Terry Steely, Nevada; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Jack Sutton, the state of Rhode Island; and one sister, Kathy Grindstaff, the state of California.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating.
