Linda D. Edwards, 63, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Hamburg, Iowa. She was married to Phill E. Edwards on Aug. 17, 1983, in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, Dederick, Mo., and he survives of the home.

Linda was reared in Glenwood, Iowa, by her grandparents, George and Fern Milsap, and graduated from Glenwood High in 1966. She moved to Kansas City in the early 1970s before coming to Vernon County in 1983. Linda was an LPN and worked in the nursing profession nearly 40 years. She served as the first woman to serve in the Army National Guard in Lexington, Mo., in Company C, 110th Engineers. She served a total of 16 years in the National Guard and Air Force Reserve before her retirement for medical reasons. Linda was a breast cancer survivor and was a member of the Lutheran Church in Glenwood.

Survivors in addition to her husband Phill include six children, Nancy McVay and her husband Mark, Glenwood, Iowa, Laura Fowler, Topeka, Kan., Wayne Edwards and his wife Kesha, Nevada, Kevin Edwards and his wife Teresa, Stockton, Mo., Sarah Arnold and her husband Dustin, Sheldon, Mo., and William Edwards, of the home; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Judy Johansen and her husband Gary, Iowa state, Joann Brosnan, Sacramento, Calif., Jeanette Gibbons, and Georgia Robertson; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by one brother, Roger.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Rosebank Cemetery, Mulberry, Kan. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday evening at Ferry Funeral Home.
