Mary Elizabeth Hunt

Saturday, June 2, 2012

Mary Elizabeth Hunt, 87, Nevada, entered into rest Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at the age of 87 years. Mary was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Ripley, Ohio. She was the second oldest of seven children who were born to William Harrison and Margaret Ann Lake.

Mary met Jimmie Raymond Hunt while he was in the service. They were united in marriage on Oct. 16, 1943. He brought Mary back to his parents, Willie Albert and Erma Thula Hunt, who resided in Cedar County, Mo., until he finished his term in the Army.

Stockton, Mo., is where Jimmie and Mary set up their own residence and raised their family of eight children: five sons and three daughters, Jimmie Hunt, Golden City, Mo., Ruth Stroud, Farlington, Kan., Faye Harra, Grandview, Mo., Lloyd Hunt, Sheldon, Mo., Gene Hunt, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Bobby Hunt, Baxter Springs, Kan., Harold Hunt, Nevada, Mo., and Mary Nelson, Libby, Mont. Mary has 33 living grandchildren; 87 living great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Lorena, Lily Virginia and Garnett Ammie; and three brothers, William Marion, Charles Gorden and Lloyd Franklin.

Mary was a very committed wife and amazingly devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a good and giving person even when she was overlooked or even taken for granted. She continued to give of herself unselfishly from the beginning to the end.

Mary was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized May 17, 1942. She attended several different denominational churches over the years at different locations, according to where she lived and the distance to get there. Since she never had a driver's license; she depended on others to get her there when the opportunity was available. Nonetheless, she walked with the Lord and prayed for her family daily.

Mary worked at the Nevada State Hospital for 16 years until she retired. Since then she had a home of her own which she opened the door welcoming in anyone who needed a roof over their heads from her children to grandchildren. She lived in several different locations such as Jerico Springs, Mo., Baxter Springs, Kan., Farlington, Kan., and Sheldon, Mo., always close to one of her children. Then she lived awhile at Bristol Manor Independent Living in Nevada, until her health caused her to become a resident of Christian Health Care Center, Nevada.

This being her last earthly home, she now lives in a well-earned mansion and walks on streets of gold.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 4, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Tim O'Neal officiating. Interment will follow in Hamby Cemetery, Stockton, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Those who wish may contribute to the family in care of Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada.
