Ethel Yvonne "Midge" Barnes, 90, Moundville, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born on June 20, 1922, in Liberal, Mo., to James T. Shrimplin and Ethel Hornecker Shrimplin. She married Leasel Merl Janes in 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1976. She later married Claude E. Barnes in 1979 and he survives of the home.
Midge attended the Bethel country school and then graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1940. She worked for the Nevada State Hospital for several years in the telephone office. Midge was a member of the Moundville Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of Vernon County.
Survivors include her husband, Claude, of the home; one daughter, Joyce Thompson, Lafayette, La.; one son, Jerry Janes and his wife, Carol, Moundville, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Sandra Price, Nevada; several grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Leasel, she was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
