Robert Lee Wintjen, 85, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Hepler, Kan., to Lloyd Andrew and Anna Ruth Goff Wintjen. He married Pearl L. Crapson on May 2, 1954, in Walnut, Kan., and she survives of the home.

Bob was raised in the Walnut, Kan., area, and graduated from Walnut High School in 1947. He worked in the logging industry for several years in southeast Kansas. Bob also followed the wheat harvest for a number of years before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. He was stationed in Germany in the 28th infantry Quarter Master Corps. Following the service, Bob came back to Kansas and went to work for Claycomo aircraft plant where they built the B-47 wings. He lived in Colorado for 11 years where he worked for the Am Can Company. Bob and Pearl moved to Nevada in 1965. He began working at Farm & Home Savings & Loan until his retirement in 1988. Bob loved his family. He also loved to hunt and fish and remodeling projects. Bob was a member of the American Legion for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl, of the home; two sons, Tim Wintjen and his wife, Debbie, Moundville, Mo., Christine Wintjen, Nevada, and Daniel Wintjen and his wife, Reynalda, Gardner, Kan.; three grandchildren, Cory Wintjen, Brittany Haynes, and Matthew Wintjen; two great-grandchildren, Chevy Wintjen and Trinity Haynes; one sister, Hazel Hand and her husband, Dean, Wichita, Kan., and one sister-in-law, Gloria Wintjen, Joplin. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dwayne Wintjen; and one great-grandson, Chase.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment with military honors will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Children's Building Department at the First Baptist Church in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
