The Cottey College Comets were unable to complete the sweep Wednesday afternoon in the first doubleheader at the new Vanek Family Memorial Field.

The Comets took the opening game by a final score of 5-4 over the Vikings of Missouri Valley College, but were unable to come out on top of an equally close second game, falling by a final score of 12-10.

The Comets had to play from behind throughout the second game of the day and did so impressively, coming back from a three-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to force an extra, tie-breaking inning. In the international tiebreaker, each team started with a runner on second base and played until three outs were recorded.

The Vikings got the better of that exchange as the Comets' will to battle the cold weather seemed to fade and head coach Shelli Stanley's squad allowed four runs. Cottey's attempt at a comeback in the home half of the frame came up two runs short, giving the Vikings a 12-10 victory.

The Comets were scheduled to be back in action at home today, taking on East Central, but due to the winter storm that moved into the area on Thursday, that twinbill will be played in Union, Mo.
