Gladys Ruth Newby

Gladys Ruth Newby, 82, passed away at her home in Nevada, Friday, May 3, 2013, following a short illness. She was born on Jan. 14, 1931, in Pittsburg, Kan., to John Raymond Harden and Willa Rose Edson Harden. She was married to James "Bob" Newby on April 3, 1953, in Kansas City, Mo., and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2012.

Gladys was raised in Walker, Mo., and graduated from Walker High School in 1951. She and Bob lived and worked in Kansas City for 30 years and came back to Nevada in 1987. She was a devoted wife to her husband Bob and loved her family. Gladys was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include three children, Barbara Kisner and her husband, Melvin, Warrensburg, Mo., Diane Kidd and her husband, John, Harrisonville, Mo., and Clarence Newby and his wife, Cathy, Nevada; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three brothers, Allen Harden, Donald Harden and his wife, Shirley, and Darrell Harden and his wife, Ramona, all of Nevada; two sisters, Margarette Kitsmiller and her husband, Don, Nevada, and Aletha Kuppa and her husband, Herman, La Cygne, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Rosemary Brundridge; and two brothers, Marion Harden and Charles Harden.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, at the funeral home.
