Clinton H. Gillespie, 90, Independence, Mo., formerly of Moundville, Mo., passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at his home in Independence. He was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Moundville to Joseph Clinton Gillespie and Edith Mae Blackwell Gillespie. He married Mary L. Nunez on July 7, 1952, in Nevada, Mo., and she preceded him in death.

Clinton worked for 19 years for the United States Postal Service. He was a career serviceman, serving in three wars including World War II in the 103rd Infantry, Korea, and Vietnam. Clinton retired from the United States Army after 27 years of service.

Survivors include two sons, Clint "Joe" Gillespie and Robert Gillespie, both of Independence; one daughter, Desira Biggerstaff and her husband, Stewart, Liberty, Mo.; three grandchildren, Gabe Gillespie, Sean Gillespie, and Conner Gillespie; one brother, Eugene Gillespie, state of Oklahoma; four sisters, Edith Buchanan of Stager, Ill., Twila Lundry, Independence, Christine Nunez and June Smith, both of Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Garnett Mullinex, Jerry Gillespie and Gale Gillespie; and two sisters, Dorothy Senkevech and Anna Cassatt.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, Mo.
