Edgar E. Higgins, 52, a resident of Richards, Mo., died unexpectedly late Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center, in Nevada. He was born Sept. 4, 1960, in Fort Scott, the son of Melvin Higgins and Sandra Joan Cameron Higgins. Ed was a 1978 graduate of Nevada High School. He married Joy Elaine Stinnett on Oct. 24, 1992, in Bonner Springs, Kan. He was an over the road truck driver. Ed was the current mayor of Richards, Mo. He loved to attend stock car races and collect many items including ink pens, hats, and model cars.

Survivors include his wife, Joy, of the home; his father, Melvin Higgins, Richards; two sons, Earl Higgins and wife, Kari, Nevada, and James Stinnett and wife, Lisa, Deerfield, Mo.; and one daughter, Rebecca Stinnett, Richards. Also surviving is a niece, Jessica Stinnett; nine grandchildren, Lukas Charles Brewer Higgins, Alex and Nathan of Nevada, Heather, Jacob, Chloe of Deerfield and Syllvin, Jaylee and RayRay of Richards; two great-nephews of the home and one great-niece that he helped raise, Dalton Bittner, Braden Stinnett and Toni Pittner, Noel, Mo. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Higgins, and a son, Charles Higgins.

Funeral services will be held at noon, today, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Richland Cemetery, Richards. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m., until service time at Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to a Ed Higgins Memorial Fund, and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P. O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan.
