Donald C. Woods passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at his home in Buffalo, Mo. He was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Ozark, Mo., the son of Elmer and Shrilda Woods.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha; parents; and one older sister, Helen.

He is survived by his son, Don Woods Jr. and wife, Joan, of Bolivar; grandchildren, Chris and Cheryl Woods of Chicago, Ill., Jeff Woods and his partner, Miguel Barrio, of New York City, N.Y., and Shelly and Andrew Wheeler of Norman, Okla.; four great-granddaughters, Addison, Ella, and Avery Wheeler, and Harper Woods; and one niece, Carolyn Patterson and husband, Danny.

Don and Bertha Woods were the founders of Woods Supermarkets. They were well-respected in the supermarket industry in the state of Missouri. Don will always be remembered for his integrity in how he ran his business, his incredible sense of humor and his unending love for his family and the people that he worked with every day.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26, in the Buffalo First Baptist Church with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar. Arrangements are under the direction of the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo.
