Leonard Lavern Baker

Leonard Lavern Baker, 85, of Moundville, Mo., passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Barton County, to Claude T. Baker and Thelma O. (Corlee) Baker. He married Patty Jean Wolfe on Sept. 3, 1948, in Colorado, and she survives of the home.

Leonard graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1946, then moved to Colorado for a couple of years for work. He and Patty then moved back briefly to Vernon County then to Georgia where he worked building the hydrogen bomb plant. In 1961, the family moved back to Moundville and this area has been their home since that time. He was a bulldozer operator for Pohl Construction and various other contractors in this area and was a member of both the Coal Miners and Operating Engineers Unions. He was a greater than 50 year member of the Liberal, Missouri Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling in their RV to Stockton Lake.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Dianna Bowen and her husband, Randall, Moundville, Mo., and Sherry Snowden and Darrell Crayne, Belton, Mo.; grandson Travis Lance Pugh, Nevada, Mo.; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; half-sister, Nona Comstock; and half-brother, Harold Baker.

Graveside services with masonic rites will be held at 11 a.m., today, at Moundville Cemetery, Moundville. Friends may call now until 10 a.m., on the day of service.
