Lawrence Ray Tracy

Lawrence Ray Tracy, 78, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, in Nevada. He was born Oct. 7, 1935, in Nevada to Leland Springer Tracy and Dorothy Nadine (Peak) Tracy. He and Blanch Lucy Slates were married on Oct. 7, 1982, and she survives of Nevada.

Lawrence was a graduate of Nevada High School in 1953. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in January 1962. For many years he lived in Kansas City, Mo., and worked for Schooley Printing. Lawrence later moved back to Nevada to be near family where he worked at the Nevada State Hospital, during the 1980s, and then drove a cab until his retirement.

His hobbies included crossword puzzles, reading, taking walks, listening to gospel music and he liked to travel. Lawrence was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kansas City, Kan. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Blanch, include three children, Rebecca Ann Parra, Lawrence, Kan., Steven Ray Tracy and Amber, Belton, Mo., and Susie Baldwin, Nevada; grandchildren, Joshua Schaumburg, Tiffany Schaumburg, Matthew Schaumburg, Felicia Tracy, Allison Tracy, Cameron Tracy, Lindsay Smith and Drake Baldwin; great-grandchildren, Jase Smith, Ricky Parra, Alex Parra, Noah Schaumburg, Natalie Schaumburg, Christian Schaumburg, Freedom Boyd and Athena Boyd; and one brother, Leland E. Tracy, Belton, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Ronald Tracy; and three sisters, Barbara, Betty, and Frances.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 10, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with the Rev. Roger Beach officiating. Friends may call Wednesday evening and until 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Contributions may be made in his memory to Vernon County Cancer Relief in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
