The Taking Off Pounds Sensibly organization recently donated $250 to the Northeast Vernon County elementary school.

"We're going to apply the donation toward technology," elementary principal Kendall Ogburn said.

TOPS members make knickknacks for sale at Christmas and donate a portion of the proceeds to the school every year.

In other business, the NEVC Board of Education:

* Voted to amend the school calendar during its December meeting to have the first makeup day be Jan. 31.

* Was told the solar panel instillation at NEVC's elementary and high school was postponed until mid-January due to weather.

* Superintendent Charles Naas told the board it should hear the audit report at the January meeting and no major deficiencies had been identified in the report.

* High school principal Chris Hudson said the students are still having minor issues with Chrome books and cracked screens.

"A few students have lost privileges, but overall it is going well," she said. "Many students are getting harder or better cases."

* Was told that the FBLA and FCCLA went to El Dorado Springs to help make Christmas baskets for families in need.
