Mary Elizabeth Borgelt

Mary Elizabeth Borgelt, 82, formerly of Metz, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Fort Scott Manor in Fort Scott, Kan. She was born Feb. 28, 1931, in Pauls Valley, Okla., to William Cleve Calvert and Lettie Elizabeth Golden. Mary was united in marriage to Ralph Burton Borgelt Jr. on Dec. 28, 1950, in Vernon, Texas, and he survives in Fort Scott, Kan.

Mary grew up on a farm in rural Pauls Valley, Okla., and attended school there. She and Ralph met in Fort Sill, Okla., when Ralph was in the National Guard there. Mary and Ralph lived in Toledo, Ohio, for a number of years before moving to Metz in 1988, to be near family.

Mary worked at a variety of jobs including a beautician for 10 years, a seamstress for 10 years, she worked as a security supervisor for more than 10 years at Pinkerton Co., in Toledo, and later at Fram Corp., in Nevada, and worked at the Nevada Habilitation Center, in Nevada, for seven years, until her retirement. Mary was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Nevada for 23 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Ralph, survivors include one daughter, Patricia Jeanette Hagemann, Metz; one son, William Henry Borgelt and his wife, Sue, McAlester, Okla.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Riddles, Duncan, Okla., and Emily "Inez" Middleton, Metz; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Nevada, with the Rev. Johannes Brann officiating. Interment will follow in Pryor Creek Cemetery in Metz. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
