Francis Marie Wood, 93, formerly of Vernon County, Mo., passed away April 17, 2014, at the Colonial Springs Healthcare, in Buffalo, Mo., following a short illness. Francis was born July 11, 1920, in Vernon County, to Frank Marshall Carter and Anna May (Slates) Carter. She was united in marriage to George A. (Del) Wood in December 1936, and he preceded her in death on 1971.

Francis was raised in Vernon County and attended the rural country schools. She then worked in various restaurants in Sheldon most of her life. Francis was a longtime member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Milo, where she was baptized as a young girl. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing and cooking. She has made Buffalo her home for the past 14 years.

Survivors include her son, Robert M. (Bobby) Wood and his wife, Jean, of Buffalo; one daughter-in-law, Cheri Wood, Bates City, Mo.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Del, Francis was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Frankie Woody; two sisters, Mary Schuholm and June Rhine; and two sons, George F. Wood and Robert I. Wood.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 19, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service.
