George T. McGuire

George T. McGuire, 90, formerly of Sheldon, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Laurie Care Center, in Laurie, Mo. George was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Iantha, Mo., to Clyde Thomas McGuire and Susie Belle (Heryford) McGuire. He was united in marriage to Patricia Lee Kabler on Dec. 27, 1945, in Fort Scott, Kan., and she preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2014.

George was raised on numerous farms in the Sheldon area and graduated from Sheldon High School Class of 1942. Following high school he joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. AJAX in the South Pacific during World War II. George lived most of his life in Kansas City, Kan., working jobs in the Kansas City area until retirement from the Union Gas Co. George had also lived in Fort Scott, Mound City, Kan., and in Laurie for the past 10 years. George was a member of the Westlake Christian Church in Laurie.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Lee Vogel and her husband, Jim, Gravois Mills, Mo., and Victoria Lynn Burgard, Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Runion, Independence, Mo., and Eleanor Ambrose and her husband, Norman, Louisburg, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 25, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Kelley Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Mo. Family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m., prior to the service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of George to the Sheldon Cemetery in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
