The trees around Bronaugh will get some much needed attention the Bronaugh Board of Aldermen decided at its meeting Monday.

"I've noticed we have a lot of trees hanging low on a lot of the streets," mayor Sherry Brown said. "Oak Street is really bad. We'll put out a small ad, everyone can let me know what areas need work, and we'll have a map for the tree trimmers."

Brown said she would get permission from landowners if the trees aren't on the right-of-way. She added the south end of Ash Street needed some gravel for potholes. The aldermen agreed to have the road taken care of.

In other business, the aldermen approved treasurer Ann Laudermilk to take extended vacation, send out mowing letters and ask residents to start cleaning up for the Fall Festival in September.

The tax levy hearing is tentatively set for 7:30 p.m., Aug. 21. The general tax is currently at 15 cents per $100 assessed valuation and can be raised up to 20 cents per $100 assessed valuation, and the street tax is currently 34 cents and can be raised to 50 cents.

"I would like to point out postage is 49 cents now, so by the time you pay for postage when you send out bills, you're not making anything, in fact you're losing a little," Laudermilk said. "My suggestion would be to raise the streets and leave the general alone."

Acceptance of bids for the water project will also be on the agenda of the special meeting.

The water project engages engineering firm Bartlett and West to refurbish the water treatment plant's clear well, replace an aerator, install a pair of high velocity service pumps, build connection lines and tie everything together with electronic controls.

In the treasurer's report, the general fund lost $9; the water fund gained $1,640; and the sewer fund gained $379.
