Care Connection for Aging Services will help people enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace at Cottey College Dec. 6. The event, which is open to the public, is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the college campus at 1000 W. Austin Blvd.

Care Connection for Aging Services has trained counselors who will be available to help people navigate the maze of the online federal Marketplace. Open enrollment will take place through Feb. 15. For a plan to be effective Jan. 1, consumers must enroll by Dec. 15.

Care Connection's Marketplace enrollment help is provided free of charge, and its counselors are licensed navigators do not sell anything.

The Marketplace may provide private health insurance savings based upon consumers' income.

Most people who apply through the online Marketplace qualify for premium tax credits and savings on out-of-pocket costs based on household size and income, according to Care Connection's press release.

"Most people must have health insurance or face a fee of 2 percent of their income, or $325 for each adult and $162.50 for each child in 2015 -- whichever is higher, according to the federal government. The law requires people to carry health insurance -- Medicaid, Medicare, or an individual, job-based, or Marketplace plan."

If you cannot attend the Dec. 6, event and have questions on the Health Insurance Marketplace, call 1-800-748-7826 or visit www.healthcare.gov.
