NMS eighth-graders hammer Joplin North

Nevada's Middle School eighth-grade girls swept Joplin North Monday night, with the A team prevailing 31-4 and the B team slipping past 10-6.

Nevada built a 17-2 lead at the first break and extended that to 21-2 at the half. Both teams scored four points in the third stanza before the Tigers closed out the game with six more in the final frame.

Laiken Cussimanio led NMS with 10 points, getting eight in the first quarter. Emily Johnson contributed eight, with six in the first period.

Naudea Dodds and Cameron Holcomb contributed four each, Hailey Jackson three, and Carly McCaffree two.

In the B team game, the Tigers failed to connect in a cold first period for both teams but Joplin managed just two points of its own.

Nevada put together five points in the second period and led 5-2 at intermission. They took a 2-0 edge in the third before closing out the game with three points in the fourth.

Naudea Dodds netted four, Riley McGraw three, Carly McCaffree two and Maddie Marbough one for the Tigers.
