Pauline Ratts Skaggs

Pauline Ratts Skaggs, 95, of Atlanta, Ga., passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Dekalb Medical Center, in Decatur, Ga. She was born in Sprague, Mo., on Jan. 20, 1919, as the first child of Harve and D'Ella Ratts. She married James L. Skaggs, of Thayer, Mo., on May 21, 1944, at the Sprague Christian Church. The was the first wedding to be held in that church. She was a 1937 graduate from Nevada High School.

Pauline worked as a secretary in Kansas City and several other cities as her husband, Jim, was promoted and transferred while working for Frisco Railroad. After settling in Atlanta, Ga., in 1949, she later gave birth to son, Stephen, in 1953, and then worked many years as an administrative assistant for the Decatur-Dekalb YMCA. After retiring from the YMCA in 1979, Pauline went on to obtain her real estate license and worked as an administrative assistant for Triangle Realty in the Atlanta area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Harve and D'Ella Ratts; infant sister, Sue Ellen; and brother Harve Jr. She is survived by her sister, Wilma Starr, of Nevada, Mo.; son, Stephen and his wife, Teresa Skaggs, of Paducah, Ky.; granddaughter, Christen Wood; and great-grandchildren, Jamie and Aiden Wood, of Auburn, Ga.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McGennis Youth Center, 3181 State Highway WW, Rich Hill, Mo., or Friends of GreenLawn Cemetery Association, Box 42, Rich Hill.

Funeral services will be held today, at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at noon, at the Heuser Funeral Home, in Rich Hill. Interment will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill.
