Winona Grace (Kester) Crawford

(Winona) Grace Crawford, 101, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada. She was born on May 23, 1913, in Walker, Mo., to Charles Kester and Nellie (Cunningham) Kester, who preceded her in death.

Also preceding Grace in death was her husband, Wagner Rush Crawford; sisters, Gladys Cheeseman, Hattie B. Cherry and Nellie Fay Gundy; brothers, Walter Miles and Raymond Kester; daughter, Carol Duncan; daughter-in-law, Patty Crawford; son-in-law, Jack McElwain; grandsons, Mark Duncan and Jeff Crawford; and great-granddaughter, Whitney Crawford.

Grace graduated from Walker High School in 1930 and married Wagner Rush Crawford on May 11, 1930, in Stockton, Mo. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Nevada, and worked many years as a nurse in Nevada alongside Drs. King, Pierce and Pascoe.

Survivors include three children, daughter Pat McElwain, Nevada; two sons, Charles Crawford (Joyce), Lee's Summit, Mo., and Raymond Crawford, Nevada; six grandchildren, Larry Duncan (Anna), Nevada, Connie Campbell (John), Kansas City, Mo., Kelli Schapeler (Donald), Rockville, Mo., Robert McElwain (Diana), Nevada, Todd Crawford (Teddi), Harrisonville, Mo., and Michelle Kaiser (Wade), Prairie Home, Mo.; 10 great-grandchildren, Travis Duncan (Brandy), Nevada, Gina Campbell, Kansas City, Mo., Amelia Murphy (Keith), Nevada, Santana Duncan, Lee's Summit, Mo., Katrina Rich (Jeremy), Rich Hill, Mo., Jenna Crawford, Lenexa, Kan., Rachel Dickerson (Tanner), Wichita, Kan., Drew Sells, Columbia, Mo., Jordan Budzick (Daniel), Lee's Summit, Mo., and Sydney Sells, Prairie Home, Mo.; and eight great-great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Tucker Duncan, Nevada, Duff, Fox and Pace Murphy, Nevada, Emma Grace Reese and Kelsey Budzick, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Liam Rand, Prairie Home, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Hubert Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now until the hour of service at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Nevada High School Foundation for a nursing student scholarship in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
