The Hume Lady Hornets packed a powerful sting on their way to a two-set victory over the Bronaugh Lady Wildcats, 25-17 and 25-23.

The Monday night Golden Valley Vernon County Conference matchup in Bronaugh was Hume's third consecutive victory as they improve to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in GVVC play.

"There's definitely a lot of improvement, especially in our passing," Hume head coach Delayna Thompson said.

Trailing 8-5 in the first set, the Lady Hornets went on a 6-0 blitz with sophomore Hannah Swickhamer serving.

Trailing by five, Katey Rider's kill sliced Bronaugh's deficit to 14-10.

Later in the set, consecutive aces from sophomore Karlee Metcalf extended the Lady Hornets lead to 19-13.

Hume senior Brhett Mumma later duplicated Metcalf, coming up with back-to-back aces as the Lady Hornets went in front 22-13.

The set concluded with a Bronaugh service-error.

"Our serving in the first set was good," Thompson said. "I think we only messed up one serve the entire set. And our hitting has been better."

The second set opened with the teams exchanging points, as Hume led 4-3, before Rider came up with points on a kill and tap to hand Bronaugh a 5-4 edge. A kill courtesy of Hume senior Megan Sutcliffe, knotted the match 5-5.

Trailing 18-13, Bronaugh went on a 7-2 run to even the score at 20 apiece.

However, multiple Bronaugh service-errors allowed Hume to reclaim the lead en route to victory.

"We didn't play up to our capabilities this evening," Bronaugh head coach Daryl Dodson said. "Service-errors are one of our Achilles heels right now.

"I'd like to see us moving our feet a little bit more, and being a little more aggressive than we were tonight. And our communication ---- many times the ball dropped right in between a couple of them."
