Friday, November 6, 2015

Eileen Emma Mohlfeld, 78, formerly of Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at her son's home in Oronogo. She was born Thursday, Dec. 17, 1936, in Wisner, Neb., the daughter of George and Martha (Hass) Wilhelm. On July 8, 1961, she was united in marriage to Alvin Otto Mohlfeld at St. Matthews Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2012.

Eileen lived with her family on a farm in Wisner where she also attended school, graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1954. After she and Alvin were married they became the proud parents of four children whom were all born while they family lived on the Nebraska farm. In the mid-1980s the family moved to Missouri settling on a farm near Moundville after deciding they might enjoy a bit warmer climate. She and Alvin both worked at the Nevada Habilitation Center for a time and after 22 years of employment Eileen retired in 2008. In early 2013 Eileen moved to Oronogo to be near family. She was a lifelong homemaker who was well-known for her fried chicken, pumpkin and pecan pies, cinnamon twists, and her love of anything chocolate. When time allowed she enjoyed flower gardening, birdwatching, and caring for her cats. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a longtime member of the First Trinity Lutheran Church in Altona, Neb., before moving her membership to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Scott, Kan. While attending church in Nebraska she served with the Ladies Aid Committee within the church and was also a member of the local Garden Club.

Survivors include her four children, Clark Mohlfeld and wife, Connie, of Bennington, Neb., Scott Mohlfeld and wife, Cheri, of Liberal, Judith Evans and husband, Darryl, of Olathe, Kan., and Keith Mohlfeld and fiancé, Lisa Jenkins, of Oronogo; grandchildren, Brandon, Dalton, Haley, Paige, and Triston Mohlfeld, Danielle Kimerer, Brittany Evans, Gabriel Jenkins, Christopher Canet, and Cordell, Keeley, and Kelsey Ross; great-grandchildren, Brody Ely, Jacklyn and Eloise Kimerer, Branton Walker, Toran Peel, and Dayton Morley; brother-in-law, Carl Henshaw; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harvey and Bonnie Mohlfeld; sister-in-law, June Wilhelm; and cousins, nieces and nephews, along with other extended family members. Of special mention is her beloved kitty, Bobbi, whom was her constant companion. Aside from her husband, Eileen was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Wilhelm. The family would also like to extend a special Thank You to Lisa and Cheri who took wonderful care of Eileen these past years.

Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., in the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the National Parkinson's Foundation or Hospice Compassus, in Lamar, in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
