Markalene B. Kistner, 80, Nevada, Mo., joined her loved ones on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at her home, in Nevada, following an illness of several months. She was born on Sept. 18, 1935, in Joplin, Mo., the daughter of Alfred and Luella Nichols. She was united in marriage to Robert James Kistner on May 19, 1960, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death in 2001.

Markalene was raised in the Nevada area and attended Nevada schools. She was employed at Nevada City Hospital/Nevada Regional Medical Center from 1966 until 1977. While working, Markalene also attended LPN school in 1976 and 1977. After acquiring her LPN license, she began working at the Nevada State Hospital in 1977. She continued working there until 1988 when she retired due to disability. Markalene was an avid Bingo player and never missed Bingo night. She was member of the RLDS Church in Nevada.

Survivors include her children, Catherine Simon and her husband, David, Milo, Mo., Michael Mills and his wife, Roxanne, Wichita, Kan., Jim Kistner and Trisha Zulic, San Diego, Calif., and Patricia Culbertson, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; three grandchildren, Rob Simon, Danelle Ropelato, and Brandon Love; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and two brothers, Lester Nichols, Nevada, and Marion Nichols, Nevada. In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Robert Kistner and Johnathon Simon; her parents; and one brother, Maurice Nichols.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, at Newton Burial Park, in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

The family would like to say to all of her friends and family, "She loved them all and is now at peace and is happy with the Love of her Life."
