Nevada Council approves dissolving dispatch board

On April 21, 2009, the city of Nevada and the Vernon County Commission jointly formed the Western Missouri 911 Commission. Sometime in the next 90 days or so that entity is scheduled to disappear to be replaced by a new 911 dispatch operated by the Vernon County Sheriff's Office based on the terms of an agreement the Nevada City Council voted 4-0, with council member Lance Christie excused, to pass on first reading. The second and final reading will be held during the council's May 17 meeting.

This change over has been in the works ever since voters turned down a tax proposal last year to fund the operation of the current center with an independent board.

Under the new agreement the city of Nevada will contract for dispatch services with the county at a cost of $200,000 per year, or $16,667 per month for the 18-month agreement.

In other business the council:

* Voted 5-0, to accept the low bid of $44,582 from Republic Ford for a Ford F-150, 1-ton pickup truck to replace the current truck used by the Nevada Fire Department.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the low bid $31,925 from Republic Ford for a 201 4-wheel drive, ¾-ton extended cab truck for the public works department.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the low bid of $23,499 from Cross Road Sales and Service for a new 4X4 utility tractor with loader to be used at the wastewater treatment plant, as well as mowing easements and right-of-way areas.

* Voted 5-0, to accept low bid of $20,273 from Excelsior Blower Systems for a replacement for the No. 2 blower for the east aeration basin at the wastewater treatment plant. Because of internal housing damage the original blower cannot be repaired.

* Voted 5-0, to pass on first reading a special ordinance approve a memorandum of understanding with the Bushwhacker Committee to provide up to $15,000 for the promotion of tourism for the 2016 Bushwhacker Days Celebration. The committee is proposing to spend $5,000 for Jeff & Sheri Easter to provide entertainment on Wednesday, June 8; $5,000 for Blackjack Billy, to provide entertainment on Saturday, June 11; and $7,200 to OKC Backup for sound, light and engineers for June 8-11.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the low bid of $409,986.55 from Apac-Central Inc., for street paving services for the 2016 sales tax street improvements.

* Voted 5-0, to give final approval to a special ordinance changing the zoning on property located at 215 N. Chestnut from R-2, two family residences, to RP-2, planed two family residence district to allow the construction of an additional duplex on the property. The change will be at the request of Cindy Thompson, the property owner. There are already two single-family homes on the property and the change in zoning is needed to build the additional duplex.

* Voted 5-0, to adopt Resolution No. 1454, approving membership in the Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission at a cost of $0.22 per capita or a total of $1844.92 as has been determined by the commission.

* Voted 4-0, to approve having the city manager spend up to $1,400 to share the $2,000 cost with the Bushwhacker Committee of making an overlay for the city's billboards to promote the Bushwhacker Days celebration.
