Howard Luther Lyons

Howard Luther Lyons, 95, of Richards, Mo. passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 at his home. Howard was born on Feb. 28, 1921 in Metz Township on the farm now known as McGinnis Youth Center to Paul E. and Roxie Lyons. He attended Metz Schools and graduated from Metz High School in 1939. After high school Howard worked with the CCC Program (Civilian Conservation Corp ) as a hospital orderly and an ambulance driver.

Howard served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II where he was stationed in Burma, China, and India. Following the war Howard came back to Kansas City and began working for General Motors and later for Bill Glover Mfg. before coming back to farm and operate a dairy in Vernon County near Metz. Howard then took advantage of the GI Bill and continued his agriculture education. Howard was united in marriage to Melba Lea Hall on May 5, 1946, she preceded him in death after 40 years of marriage. Howard was a longtime member of the Metz Christian Church and later a member of the Double Branch Christian Church in Rich Hill, Mo.. He was also a member of the Rich Hill V.F.W. and the Metz School Board.

Survivors include two sons, William Lyons of Richards, Mo., Mark Lyons, his wife Rebecca of Nixa, Mo., grandchildren, Maj. Jeremy Lyons, his wife Julie of Ft. Lewis, Wa., Casey Lyons, his wife Jenica of Ruidosa, N.M.; their mother, Vicki Lyons, Overland Park, Kan.; two step grandchildren, Jacob Gilmore, Jessica Gilmore; four great grandchildren, Kyren Lyons, Garrett Crimson, Gavin Crimson, Jaxon Lyons, one sister, Madge Baze of Nevada, Mo.; several nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother Homer Paul Lyons.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in the Balltown Cemetery in Horton, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service on Thursday.
