Jim Arthur

Jim Arthur, age 69, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, at his mountain home outside of Cassville, Mo., surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was born the eldest son of Lt. Col. James K. and Wanda (Phipps) Arthur on Feb. 22, 1948. The family moved to Nevada in 1948. Jim attended Nevada schools and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was later selected to attend Philmont Boy Scout Camp in New Mexico. Jim was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Nevada. He graduated Nevada High School in 1966. Upon graduation, Jim attended Pittsburg State University and the University of Central Missouri. On June 1, 1968, Jim married Vicki Curtis of Nevada, and to this union, two children were born, a son, Joshua James and daughter, Ashley Jamette.

Jim served in the US Army from March 10, 1972, to March 7, 1975. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, working in the Comptroller’s Office. Upon discharge, Jim completed his degree in Accounting from Missouri Southern State University and passed the CPA exam on his first try. He worked as a CPA for Baird, Kurt and Dobson in Joplin, before returning to Nevada to head up Arthur Accounting upon his father’s retirement. Jim’s passions were hunting and fishing so he moved to the Ozarks in 1995. He owned and operated EFI Group, an accounting firm. Jim had many loyal clients and friends. He spent his spare time fishing at area lakes and streams or hunting with his buddies beloved duck lake. Jim was a long-time member of the Nevada Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his significant other, Cheryl Arthur loved and cared for Jim until the time of his passing; his son, Josh, Mt. Shasta, Calif., and his daughter, Ashley and husband, Dan, Harding, Portland, Ore.; his mother, Wanda Arthur; two sisters, Twila Earll and her husband, Jim, and Renee Hampton, all of Nevada; and numerous, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Lieutenant Colonel J.K. Arthur; and two brothers, Terry and Greg.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, with David Donaldson officiating.

Interment will be held at Fort Scott National Cemetery at a later date.
