Julie Annette (Smith) Simpkins, 56, Milo, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Julie was born May 5, 1961, in Nevada, to Robert Samuel and Vera Mae (Foley) Smith.

Julie was raised in Milo on the family farm, a life that she loved. She attended Nevada Schools and graduated from Nevada High School with the Class of 1979. Julie graduated from LPN school in 1989 and worked as a nurse in various nursing facilities in the four state area throughout her life. During her career, Julie touched many lives. She was known for being a giving person, always giving to others whenever possible. She loved horses and country music.

Survivors include her children, Jill Nelson, Nevada, Emily Smith, Milo, and Jordan Smith, Milo; grandchildren, Brantley Pettit, Macyn Nelson and Cole Nelson; parents, Robert and Mae Smith, Milo; two sisters, Bonnie Coale and her husband, Clay, Nevada, Kathie Foster, Milo; nephews and nieces, Chance Foster, Jake Foster and Melissa Fritter; and a plethora of adopted children.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Chad Nelson; one granddaughter, Tesla Nelson; nephew, Jason Coale; and Steven Higgins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Milo Baptist Church in Milo, with Cliff Pettibon officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Family in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
