Jeanne Lee Achey

Jeanne Lee Achey, age 62, of Sheldon, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 3, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born May 2, 1956, in Grandview, Mo., to Dean and Shirley (Kessler) Baxter. She moved with her family to Nevada in 1958 and stayed in the area throughout her life.

Jeanne graduated from Bronaugh High School and earned an Associates Degree in Accounting from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she had worked at Freeman Health Systems in Joplin and Great West Insurance in Ft. Scott. Devoted to her faith, she was an active elder and choir member at First Presbyterian Church in Nevada. Jeanne’s family was incredibly special to her and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crochet, gardening and being out in nature.

Jeanne is survived by her husband, Lynn Achey, of the home; two daughters, Christine (Shawn) Messner, Carl Junction, Mo., and Sandy (Chad) Jimerson, Carthage, Mo.; two step-daughters, Cora (Phillip) Solum, Carthage, and Sabra (Andrew) Bates, Warrensburg, Mo.; one son, Lonnie Friedli, of Joplin; two step-sons, Nathan (Brandy) Achey, Neosho, Mo., and Matthew (Jessica) Achey, Lamar, Mo.; her parents, Dean and Shirley Baxter, of Milo; four brothers, Mark (Debbie) Baxter, Cottage Grove, Minn., Mike (B.J.) Baxter, Sheldon, Melvin (Jan) Baxter, Silver Springs, Fla., and Daniel (Dilly) Baxter, Nevada; 17 grandchildren and many extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar with Greg Ferree officiating. Interment will follow at Hackney Cemetery, Southeast of Jasper, Mo. The family will receive friends today from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested to the youth fund or music fund at First Presbyterian Church in Nevada.
