The Nevada Lady Tigers are scheduled to the hit the diamond Saturday, Aug. 18 for the McDonald County High School softball jamboree.

There, the Lady Tigers match-up with East Newton High School at 11 a.m., and then wrap exhibition play with host McDonald County at noon.

The Lady Tigers, coming off a 12-14 campaign, open their regular-season slate Aug. 27 against visiting Webb City. Nevada then concludes its opening week of play at the Joplin Softball Tournament (Aug. 31-Sept. 1).

Football jamboree

The Nevada Tiger football team was originally scheduled to compete in the Carthage jamboree, but the venue has been changed, as Nevada will now participate in the Carl Junction High School jamboree, set for Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.

The exhibition scrimmage will first pit Nevada against host Carl Junction on the north end of the field.

The Tigers will then move to the south end of the field, where they will square off against Carthage, and then finish up against Monett.

Nevada Head coach Wes Beachler said Friday afternoon that he was unsure of why the location was switched from Carthage to Carl Junction.

Meet the Players

Nevada High School’s annual fall sports “Meet the Players” assembly is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Wynn Gymnasium.

At the assembly, head coaches from the school’s football, softball, volleyball, cross country, girl’s tennis, girl’s golf and swimming programs will address the assembled audience — discussing what to expect from their respective squads this fall.

Meanwhile, cheer coach Pam Earnest and the NHS cheerleaders will kick off the festivities.
