Betty Ann Woody, 83, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin following a short illness. Betty Ann was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Belton, Mo., to Jacob Lester and Opal (Pitts) Thompson. She was united in marriage to Charles Allen Woody on Oct. 19, 1952, in Nevada, Mo., and he passed away on Aug. 27, 1984.

Betty Ann came to Nevada with her family in 1947 and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1952. Betty Ann worked most of her life in the Vocational Rehabilitation Department at the Nevada State Hospital retiring in 1999 after 35 years of employment. She was a board member and active volunteer for the Nevada Griffons and also the Vernon County Historical Society. Betty Ann was an avid Kansas City Royals and Kansas Chiefs fan.

Survivors include one son, Scott Woody and his wife, Jan, Joplin, Mo.; grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly Allen and her husband, Josh, Eddington, Maine, Kristina Alford and her husband, Shane, Joplin, Mo., and Aurora Woody, Elmore City, Okla.; stepgrandchildren, Cathy Goold, Grandview, Mo., and Tyler Groh and his wife, Kelli, Kansas City, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren, Blake Alford and his wife, Alyssa, Eden Alford, Cade Alford, Caleb Allen, Keegan Allen, Kiernan Allen, and Jayden Goold; two great-great-grandchildren, Addie Alford and Jaxson Alford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; one son, Steve Woody; and two brothers, Bill Thompson and Bob Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Ron Woody officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Nevada Griffons or the Vernon County Historical Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
