Hosmer Ray Parsons

Friday, October 26, 2018

Hosmer Ray Parsons, 77, of Greenwood, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018. He was born March 2, 1941, to Hosmer and Mildred Parsons. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Hudson, on June 18, 1961, in Sheldon, Mo., and had a son, Marcus, and a daughter, Marisa. Hosmer never passed up a moment to tell others how proud he was of his family.

Hosmer Ray was born and raised on a farm in Sheldon, Mo., and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1959. He moved to KC and worked at Hallmark Cards. He worked as a salesman, etc., in the bowling business. He then became an over-the-road truck driver for CF and ABF for over 20 years with million mile safety awards from each company. He served in the Army Reserve and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lee’s Summit, the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. He was a member of the (Teamsters Local 41) truck driver’s retiree club.

Hosmer Ray had a kidney transplant on Oct. 13, 1997, so lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed working with wood and could fix anything and everything, just ask his family. He enjoyed restoring old pickup trucks and won four trophies on his “retirement project,” a 1950 red GMC pickup. He liked to maintain the farm, mowing its waterways and roadways. As they say, “You can take the boy off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy.”

Hosmer Ray is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth Ann; one son, Marcus and his wife, Amy, with two grandsons, Denton and Nathan and two granddaughters, Megan and Faith, all of Frisco, Texas. He is also survived by his daughter, Marisa Elkin and son-in-law, Brandon, with twin grandsons, Thomas Hosmer and Christian James, all of Raytown, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; aunts; uncles; and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Gary Snowden officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Sheldon Cemetery in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
