Additional case of COVID-19 reported in Vernon County

Vernon County Health Department is announcing the 4th positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This resident is under quarantine at home. This case is related to exposure to a positive case outside of Vernon County.

Health Department staff is working in coordination with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to determine any close contacts of that individual who were possibly exposed. If there are any, health officials will provide guidance to these individuals and monitor them closely for the development of symptoms.

Through our case investigation it was found that the resident had been in Wal-Mart and Autozone in Nevada, MO. These locations are considered low risk for transmission per CDC guidelines.

The dates are as follows:

4-16-20 Autozone at approximately 11 a.m., Walmart at approximately 2 p.m.

4-17-20 Walmart at approximately 3 p.m.

4-21-20 Walmart at approximately 4 p.m.

The health department urges the public to take appropriate precautions including good hand hygiene, social distancing and limiting in-person interactions. If you are sick, particularly with a fever, dry cough, or shortness of breath, stay home and contact your health care provider or urgent care center for guidance regarding symptoms and next steps.

Close Contact means: 6 ft or less for 10 minutes or more with a positive case
