Walton Aquatic Center to remain closed for 2020 season

Tuesday, May 12, 2020

The City of Nevada issued a press release Tuesday announcing the closure of the Walton Aquatic Center for the 2020 season.

According to Interim City Manager Mark Mitchell, “After talking with City Council, Park Board, parents, staff and other surrounding communities we have made the decision to close the Walton Aquatic Center for the 2020 season.”

“We evaluated CDC health guidelines and looked at options on how to enforce personal distancing, limit occupancy, adjust hours and train staff. One of the major factors to closing was asking high-school-aged pool staff to take on this added level of responsibility and risk.”

“We know this is not a popular decision, but it is the right decision. We understand what an important part of summer Walton pool is for families, and my hope is the community will find other safe and healthy ways to enjoy their summer.”
