Owen Ray Bennight, 82, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, at Freeman West in Joplin, Mo. Ray was born March 21, 1938, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Ray was owner/operator of B&R Furniture, in Nevada, from 1974–1998. He enjoyed wood working, had a passion for restoring old cars and frequenting car auctions, and was always known to be hands on with family and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Betty, of the home, he is survived by three daughters, Sherry Bennight, Evansville, Ind., Cindy Bennight, Pierce City, Mo., and Kathy Edwards (Jim), Nevada, Mo.; five grandchildren, Joshua Person (Sarah), Liberty, Mo., Jason Wilson (Lynne), Evansville, Ind., Andrew Person (Beth), Independence, Mo., Christopher Smith, Greenwood, Mo., and Laura Person, Pierce City, Mo.; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Patricia Houser, Nevada; several nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; brother; two sisters; his mother-in-law; and father-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Those in attendance will be asked to maintain social distancing and are asked to wear face masks to protect themselves and others.
