A newly organized quilting club has been developed in Sheldon and they call themselves “The Stitchers and Rippers Club." They held their first all day meeting Saturday, April 30, in the Donaldson Community Center of the Sheldon United Methodist Church.

Louise Lewis, the club’s chairman, explained that besides this giving an opportunity for quilters to get together and get to quilt all day together, the reason this organization has been formed is to make and hand out rescue quilts. If there has been a child who has been a victim of a disaster (such as a home that has been destroyed due to a tornado or house been burnt), or if an officer of the law goes into a situation where a child is a victim of abuse and they have to remove them from the situation, the club will donate a quilt to that child. Vicki Jadlot, member of the club, reported that the club has already donated one quilt to a sixth grade child whose family’s home burnt to the ground.

Jadlot also reported that the club is in the middle of making a Patriotic Quilt that will hang and be raffled off during the Sheldon Picnic, which will be in August. She said that the proceeds that they profit from the raffle will be used to make more rescued quilts.

Lewis and Jadlot wants to encourage anyone that would like to join the club to do so. They stated that they would be more than happy and welcome any and all new members. However, each member has to provide their own sewing machine. Their plans are to have the all day meetings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the fourth Saturday of the month. However, they are bumping up next month’s meeting to Saturday, May 21, due to Memorial Day Weekend being the last weekend of the month. The meeting will be held at the Donaldson Community Center, in Sheldon.
