Friday, July 22, 2022

Richard Lee (Dick) Meyers, 71, formerly of Nevada, Mo., passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in Overland Park, Kan. Dick was born May 3, 1951, to Maurice (Bud) and Mary Meyers in Mitchell, S.D. At an early age he was plagued with polio. The generosity from the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis, Minn., allowed Dick to receive lifesaving treatments.

After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Mitchell, S.D., he attended the Rapid City School of Business in Rapid City, S.D. While living in Mitchell he married Jean Meyers and they had two children together.

In 1986, he and Jean moved to Nevada, Mo., to build a Super 8 Motel. Nevada became their home, as they developed motels and commercial properties in Missouri and Kansas. Dick dedicated many years of service as a council member and mayor of the City of Nevada.

Dick leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Terri Meyers, of the home. They spent their lives together living through the Midwest with their Schnauzer dogs, Lily and Lucy. He is also survived by four children, Kelly (Jason) Ast, Richard (Bud) Meyers, stepsons, Jason (Audra) Claspill, and Justin Claspill; grandchildren, Alex Ast, Garret Ast, Korbyn Claspill, and Zoe Claspill; sister, Pat (Lee) Elward; brother, Don Meyers; brother, Tom (Monica) Meyers of Mitchell, S.D.; sister, Julie Wieseman; brother, Bill Meyers of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister, Mary (Bob) Diederick of Omaha, Neb.; mother-in-law, Earlene Butler of Nevada; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother; father; brother, Jim; and his first wife, Jean.

Two tired eyes are sleeping, two willing hands are still. The one who worked so hard is resting at God’s Will.

A private family committal service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please contributions may be made to a charity of choice in care of Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
