Nevada Police Department to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Tuesday, October 25, 2022

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day encourages the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

The mission of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States and bring to the criminal and civil justice system of the United States, or any other competent jurisdiction, those organizations and principal members of organizations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the United States; and to recommend and support non-enforcement programs aimed at reducing the availability of illicit controlled substances on the domestic and international markets.

The Nevada Police Department has plans to participate in the Prescription Take Back Day and will receive unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29.

Anyone wishing to dispose of unwanted prescriptions may do so by bringing them to the Nevada Police Department at 120 S. Ash St. Medications may be disposed of with no questions asked.
