Sheldon sophomores learn about technical school programs

Friday, December 2, 2022
The Sheldon R-8 sophomore class had an opportunity Tuesday morning (Nov. 29) to see if attending a technical school is something that they are interested in. Coordinator Kelly Heiskell of Lamar Career Technical Center (LCTC), along with their top seven students in all seven programs, came and spoke with the students to inform them what programs they offer. The seven different programs that the school offers include the following: Health Occupations, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Welding, Carpentry, Precision Machine, and Automotive Technology. Heiskell advised the students, “That one just doesn’t leave with an education from our programs, but with the work basic experience, and with a certification.” She noted that they have had students that have gone to work at SpaceX, and nuclear plants. Heiskell stated that they have had leadership teams, like the one they had last year, called Skills USA. The team made it all the way to nationals. The students then broke off into groups and were able to visit with the top seven students and see what each of the programs were like. The students left with a lot to consider and to think about regarding their future.
